Monoprint & collage workshop 24 Jan 04

Had a great time on Saturday at the Pintados printmaking workshop in Saltdean. My friend Marie did the workshop a while ago and I really liked what she produced on it so I thought I'd give it a go.

I was a bit hungover when I got there as I'd been out with Carnival Collective the night before, but I soon got into it. Our tutor, Liz, showed us the different monoprint techniques: painting onto the lino, scraping ink off, drawing on the back of the paper on an inked-up lino, and even using leaves to print on top of other prints. Then she let us get on with it.

I just went for it, producing loads of prints based on some photos I had taken of Brighton architecture and some taken from my time in Henfield.

Then in the afternoon, after talking to the nice girls who were learning Reiki upstairs, we cut and tore up all the work we had done in the morning and stuck it back together again in collages.

It was so nice to let rip creatively. This method is great because it really doesn't matter what prints you produce because you're only going to tear them to pieces anyway! For the collage you can use the left-over bits or the prints that you thought went wrong.

What a great way to spend a Saturday!
