The Decemberists

Wow, I just heard about The Decemberists, a north American band, on the net yesterday and I already think they're amazing! Their strange, sweet songs have been echoing round my head all night.

Strange songs like "My Mother Was A Chinese Trapeze Artist" and sweet songs like "Cocoon". Have a listen to an mp3 of "Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect" here.

I haven't been this excited about a band since I first saw Damien Rice. Like then, it feels like I've "discovered" them because they haven't been recommended to me by any friends and I just kind of stumbled over them.

Also like when I saw Damien Rice, it reminds me what different forms a song can take. You don't have to be a great singer or a great guitarist to write a great song. And a song doesn't have to take the Oasis formula of song writing - it can go any way you want and be in any form you like.

Makes me want to get a band together and stay up late drinking red wine and smoking weed, getting silly and writing weird songs about life and stuff!

The Decemberists - an odd looking bunch!
